Parents' Handbook
Dear Parents
Welcome to Teddy's House Playschool!
Here are some useful information about us and our work policy. Please read them all - if you have any questions, do ask! These policies are the guidelines for our daily work. They help us setting an effective learning environment for your child. Good communication between parents and the staff is essential for building partnerships and for sharing our mutual experiences.
Our Program`s Philosophy
Our goal is to provide a safe, happy and homelike environment for your child, that will stimulate physical, intellectual, social, and emotional growth at his/her own pace. We offer loving care that focuses on each child as a unique individual. We work on increasing child`s independence and in doing so, we build up self-esteem and respect for others. We provide a daily structured program with an emphasis on creative art. Part of our daily Curriculum considers getting them ready for school through various pre-math and pre-writing activities.
Our curriculum goals:
Social Skills: The children develop social skills when they play together, learn about themselves and about other people. As they learn to share toys and their personal experiences, they take on roles and find their position in a larger group. Furthermore they also develop tolerance and acceptance toward other cultures and traditions.
Fine and Gross Motor Skills: It's very important to develop these skills through play and gymnastic activities, as well as through making crafts. The offered activities are always suited to a child's developmental level. Therefore we provide indoor and outdoor play equipment that meets the differing developmental needs of all children in the daycare. All of this allows them to master their skills one step at the time.
Language Fluency: In our bilingual environment they have the opportunity to learn both German and English language. For example, through active play in the house corner they can practice their language skills. Introducing new themes enhances different vocabulary and provides them with opportunities to use it properly. We offer many opportunities for children to develop vocabulary and use language. These include: informal conversation, talking with peers and adults through the day, songs, rhymes, finger plays or movement activities, read aloud, listening to the books and talking about new words in the story.
Expanding Knowledge through exploring different themes: Our daily schedule is based on different themes, which give children a better understanding of the world around them. The Curriculum refers to the four seasons of the year with their specialties and festivities. However we try to adapt our themes to the children's interests (for example, different animals, transportation, pirates, etc).
The welfare of the children is our top priority. That's why our teachers communicate with family members each day and exchange their experiences regarding child's progress. This enables them to set common achievable goals for each child individually and to incorporate them in the daily program. Therefore, your objections and suggestions are always very welcome.
